Josh Maddux is in his fourteenth year of teaching, and ninth year at Olathe North High School.  As Director of Bands, Mr. Maddux's teaching responsibilities include directing the Screamin' Eagle Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Basketball Pep Band, as well as assisting with the Concert Band, overseeing Percussion Ensemble, teaching AP Music Theory, and sponsoring the Olathe North Tri-M Music Honor Society.  Mr. Maddux joined the Olathe North band staff in 2018 as the Assistant Director of Bands, and took over as Director of Bands in 2022.  Prior to his appointment at Olathe North, Mr. Maddux served as the Assistant Director of Bands at Olathe Northwest High School from 2013-2018.  Mr. Maddux's introduction to teaching high school has come full circle as he completed his student teaching at Olathe North High School in the spring of 2013.

Raised in Overland Park, KS, Mr. Maddux is a graduate of Blue Valley North High School.  After high school, he attended the University of Kansas, where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Music Education.  While at KU, Mr. Maddux was highly immersed in the band department, studying conducting with Dr. Paul W. Popiel.  He enjoyed his membership in the Marching Jayhawks, serving as a trumpet section leader in 2010, as well as Drum Major for the 2011 & 2012 seasons.  Mr. Maddux was recognized as the 2010 Outstanding Brass Performer and the 2012 Outstanding Band Member.  He also performed with the Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensembles, Volleyball Band, the Women’s Basketball Band in 2009, and the Men’s Basketball Band in 2010 & 2011 - with performances in Tulsa, OK and San Antonio, TX for the 2011 NCAA Tournament, and Omaha, NE, St. Louis, MO, and New Orleans, LA for the 2012 NCAA Tournament, including the Final Four and National Championship.

Mr. Maddux's professional affiliations include the Kansas Music Educators Association, the Kansas Bandmasters Association, and the National Association for Music Education.  Additionally, Mr. Maddux enjoys performance opportunities playing trumpet as a member of the Crossroads Wind Symphony, and was part of the 2026 Crossroads recording project featuring music by Kansas Composers.  In December 2025, Mr. Maddux was the recipient of the ECKMEA District Outstanding High School Band Educator Award.

Outside of teaching, Mr. Maddux spends as much time as possible with his wife, Allison (an elementary school teacher in the De Soto School District), children Calvin and Halle, dogs Josie and Maizie, as well as other family and friends.  Mr. Maddux loves watching all KC Sports teams and the Kansas Jayhawks, cooking for family and friends, and being outside - especially golfing and playing volleyball.

Zackary Hoar is in his first year as Assistant Band Director at Olathe North High School. Mr. Hoar directs the Symphonic Band and assists with the Screamin’ Eagle Marching Band and Concert Band. Additionally, he teaches 5th-grade band and assists at Santa Fe Trail Middle School.

Mr. Hoar is a proud alumnus of the Olathe School District, having graduated from Olathe Northwest High School. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Missouri State University. During his time at Missouri State, Mr. Hoar served as a drum major for three years, including leading the PRIDE Marching Band during its exhibition performance at the Bands of America Grand National Championships Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis under the direction of Dr. Brad Snow. As a member of the Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. John Zastoupil, he performed multiple times at the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference and at the College Band Directors National Association Conference in 2018. He also performed with the University Symphony Orchestra, Basketball and Volleyball Pep Bands, and the Springfield Community Band. Mr. Hoar studied oboe with Dr. Jung Choi and served as President and Musical Director of the Missouri State Double Reed Society.

Mr. Hoar has taught music in Missouri for five years. He previously served as Director of Bands for Conway High School and Conway Junior High School for three years. He has also taught beginning band in the Kansas City Public Schools and served as a music teacher in the Center School District. Additionally, Mr. Hoar has been on staff as an assistant marching band director at Marshfield High School and Olathe Northwest High School.

Outside of teaching, Mr. Hoar enjoys spending time with his wife, Megan, and their sons, Camden and Greyson. He is an avid supporter of Kansas City sports and enjoys cooking for friends and family.

Ms. Cummings is in her third year as a teacher in the Olathe School District.  She teaches 5th Grade Band at Mahaffie, Northview, and Washington Elementary Schools, and assists with all band classes at Santa Fe Trail Middle School.  Ms. Cummings graduated from Center Point-Urbana high school in Eastern Iowa but moved to Kansas for school. She obtained her Bachelor of Music Education at the University of Kansas in the spring of 2023. Ms. Cummings teaches 5th grade band at Mahaffie, Northview, and Central elementary schools, and assists with middle school band at Santa Fe Trail, Indian Trail, and Oregon Trail middle schools. 

While at KU, Ms. Cummings was a member of the Symphonic Band, Marching band, Volleyball band, and Women's and Men's Basketball band along with the KU Opera department and Chamber choir. She studied tuba under Scott Watson and voice under Genaro Mendez.  She was given the opportunity to perform throughout the U.S. and internationally in both tuba and voice.

Mr. Fultz is thrilled to be joining for his season on the ON Band Staff.  Mr. Fultz has taught music for the last six years, and currently teaches music at Northview Elementary School.  Mr. Fultz is a graduate of Olathe Northwest High School, and the University of Kansas.  While at KU, Mr. Fultz enjoyed membership in the University of Kansas Marching Jayhawks, as well as the basketball bands.  Outside of school and music, Mr. Fultz enjoys reading books and watching movies.  He also enjoys spending time outside in nature by hiking, kayaking, and rock climbing.

Charlie Betzelberger is excited to be coming back to Olathe North as the Percussion Coordinator where he was previously in the role from 2019-2021. A native of Overland Park, Mr. B is an alumnus of Blue Valley North High School. He went on to graduate from the Berklee College of Music with a BM in Percussion Performance in 2018. While at Berklee, Mr. B performed with many groups including the Berklee Percussion Ensemble, Berklee Marching Percussion Ensemble and the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra where he was the Principal Percussionist for 2 seasons. While in Boston, he founded and performed with the percussion quartet Four for 4, where he led, composed, and arranged music for percussion ensemble heavily influenced by modern rock, pop, and jazz. Mr. B is a regularly performing drummer and percussionist in the KC area. His highlights include performances with the FMO Big Band, The Crossroads Wind Symphony, and performances in over 50 musical theatre pit orchestras. Mr. B is a sought after percussion teacher, composer/arranger and clinician in the Kansas City area. He previously served as Percussion Director at Blue Valley North High School from 2021-2025 and Assistant Director of the Kansas City Youth Percussion Ensemble from 2023-2025. Outside of music, Mr. B enjoys spending his time with his wife Dani, his daughter Rory, and his 2 dogs Norman and Nova. He enjoys playing golf, cooking and spending time at the lake and gym.
